The injuries had been caused by Maddock wounding him with a knife in an alleyway near to Avenue Road.

Maddock and the victim were associates and the motivation for the attack is believed to be related to gang-culture.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment, which he required surgery due to the level of injuries.

Maddock was arrested on July 14 and later charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article.

He was remanded in custody and pleaded guilty at the same court on August 14.

Today, he was sentenced to nine years and six months imprisonment.

Following the outcome, Detective Sergeant Abigail Simpson from the Serious and Complex Crime Team at Warwickshire Police said: "The victim in this case was subjected to a planned and sustained attack by Maddock.

"We are pleased with today's outcome which reflects the severity of the offending, and ensures this violent offender is now behind bars."
