New Chief Constable for Warwickshire announced

DCC Jelley’s appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing with the Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel, which takes place on Friday December 19.

If approved, he will formally replace the force’s current Chief Constable Andy Parker. The post will be a fixed term appointment for five years, from April next year.

DCC Jelley has worked for three county forces: Norfolk, Suffolk and Northamptonshire. For the last two years he has been Deputy Chief Constable in Northamptonshire, and in this role he has led the force transformation programme Aspire.

Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Ball, who announced the appointment, praised the calibre of all three shortlisted candidates, and congratulated DCC Jelley on being the preferred candidate.

Mr Ball said: “I’m absolutely delighted to announce DCC Martin Jelley as the preferred candidate for the new Chief Constable of Warwickshire Police. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel.

“As the current Deputy Chief Constable in Northamptonshire, Martin would bring a great deal of experience and I very much look forward to working closely with him next year.

“I’m particularly grateful to the partners who assisted with this decision, not least our Alliance colleagues in West Mercia.”
