Police think key and keyrings could help to identify man whose body was found in River Leam in Leamington

Police were called shortly before 6.25am in the morning to a report of a body being seen in the river in Jephson Gardens, close to Willes Road.

Officers and the fire service attended and recovered the body of a man from the river.

The cause of death is not yet known but the death is currently being treated as suspicious.

Det Insp Teresa McKenna said: "This is a tragic incident and we are currently carrying out enquiries to understand exactly what has happened.

“We realise this incident will be concerning to the local community and want to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident, and residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while investigations are ongoing.

“Sadly we have been unable to identify the man as he did not have any identification on his person so we are appealing for the public’s help to identify him.

“The man is described as white, in his late 30s to early 40s, of medium build, clean shaven, with blond hair and blue eyes.

"He was wearing a black puffer jacket with a hood, a navy blue long sleeved England football t-shirt, black Lonsdale tracksuit bottoms and grey Hi-Tec ‘Exodus’ trainers.

“We have also released a picture of a set of keys found on his person in the hope that someone recognises these.

"I would urge anyone who thinks they know who this man might be, or has information that could help with our investigation to please get in touch.”

Anyone who recognises the description of the man and thinks they may know who he is, or has information that could assist with our enquiries is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 35 of 15 May.
