Rape investigation launched after attack on 19-year-old woman in Leamington

A rape investigation has been launched after a 19-year-old woman was attacked on Friday night in Leamington.

The attack took place in Riverside Walk in Leamington, close to the River Leam off Newbold Terrace East, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

The victim was physically and sexually assaulted by a man unknown to her.

The man, who gave his name as ‘Tom’ or ‘Thomas’, was described as white, over 5”3, of medium build, mid to late 20s, with dark brown hair. He had a pale spotty complexion, bushy eyebrows and was clean shaven. He spoke with a local accent and was smoking a cigarette when he approached the victim.

At the time of the incident he was wearing dark blue jeans, a grey top with long sleeves and a black jacket.

Detective Inspector Graham Farren said: “This was a very serious and frightening attack by a stranger. We are doing all we can to trace the suspect.

“We would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and may have seen anything suspicious to contact police. We’re also appealing for anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the area. Please contact police on 101 quoting incident number 38 of 14th March.
