Firefighters have expressed their anger after having to rush to an incident in Rugby on Halloween whereby a passer-by had thrown a smoke grenade through the open window of a house.

Speaking on the morning of Sunday, October 1, a spokesperson said: "The crew from Rugby were called out last night to a smoke-filled house.

"The smoke was caused by someone putting a smoke grenade through one of the windows.

"This was not only very upsetting for the residents, but also extremely dangerous and could easily have ended up being a much more serious incident.

"Smoke grenades, just like fireworks, present a very real hazard, and must not be played with or used for pranks.

"Please stay safe at this time of year and only use fireworks for their intended purpose."

The spokesperson described the incident as a 'stupid and dangerous act'.

The smoke grenade appeared sold by a company which also sells fireworks.
