A 43-year-old man from Rugby was arrested in the early hours of this morning, January 7, after he allegedly racially abused one police officer, tried to spit at another and damaged a police van.

He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, committing a racially aggravated public order offence and criminal damage.

The attack on officers came after the man had been arrested earlier in the morning on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Clifton Road, Rugby. The man remains in custody.
