A Rugby man has been charged by police after he made a report of missing woman - which police said turned out to be false.

Officers spent almost two hours searching for the woman in the early hours of Saturday morning but were unable to find anyone.

A police spokesperson said: "He was arrested after officers had reason to believe it had been a false report."

The 31-year-old man from Rugby has been charged with causing wasteful employment of the police.
