Rugby Police respond to report of men trying to steal from HGV - but they fled leading to a 120mph chase and a collision

Rugby police had to use tactical contact to stop suspected thieves after a 120mph chase which saw two members of the public being struck.

Last night, December 17, police received a report of men attempting to steal from a heavy goods vehicle in Rugby.

Officers spotted the vehicle involved and it made off - resulting in a pursuit.

The vehicle was pursued along the M6 northbound where it reached speeds of 120mph.

It then exited the M6 at junction 2, attempted to go down the motorway the wrong way - and then went up the M69 reaching 120mph again.

When the vehicle exited at junction 1 of the M69 it collided with two members of the public.

Police then used tactical contact to end the pursuit.

Three males were arrested and enquiries continue.

Responding to concern over the members of the public, Rugby Police said: "We can confirm everyone involved in this incident was okay and we appreciate your concern."
