Officers from the RSPCA has now launched an appeal to find out who dumped the animals at the property in Graham Road at 8.45pm on Sunday March 13.

RSPCA inspector Jon Ratcliffe urged anyone with information about this abandonment to contact the charity as the resident has no idea by whom, or why, the guinea pigs were left on their doorstep.

He added: “This is a very strange abandonment, with these Guinea pigs left on the doorstep, but the resident having no idea why anyone would have done this.

“There was a knock at the door and when they answered there was no one there - just a box with Guinea pigs left on the doorstep.

“They were in a cardboard box with air holes but nothing else in the box. The resident made enquiries with neighbours in case this was genuine delivery left at the wrong address but when they found it was nothing to do with them they contacted us. Thankfully both the Guinea pigs are safe and well in one of our animal rescue centres and will soon be found new homes.

“Anyone with information as to who may have done this, or who owns the Guinea pigs, is urged to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
