Rugby Police took to their Facebook page to show the public the cowardly attack on officers.

The incident started when police received a call about a suspicious 4x4 towing a trailer in Lower Shuckburgh.

Rugby officers then spotted the car and the trailer being driven through Princethorpe - and a pursuit ensued.

A shocking dashcam video, recorded just before 4am this morning, shows officers pursuing the 4x4 as it flees down Leamington Road before swerving onto Burnthurst Lane.

The chase then continues for around another 50 seconds before the 4x4 stops abruptly and two occupants get out.

Each one launches a brick at the now stopped police car - one strikes the windscreen, causing it to shatter, and the second appears to bounce off the bonnet.

The occupants then clamber back into the 4x4, unhitching the trailer in the process, and speed off.

Rugby Police said they are continuing to try to identify the owner of the trailer - which they suspect is stolen.
