Hide AdDog thieves have been operating in the north of the county and close to the border with Leicestershire, where MPs have called for harsher punishments for the thieves.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “We’ve had a lot of messages recently about dog theft.
“People are concerned that cable ties on lampposts may be there for a sinister purpose to identify target houses.
“In order to stop people being concerned - please feel free to remove them from your locality when passing."
