Would-be robber left victim lying on the floor of public toilet after attack in Kenilworth

AN ELDERLY man was left lying on the floor of a public toilet in Kenilworth after an attempted robbery yesterday (Wednesday).

The 86-year old spent the night at Warwick Hospital after he was attacked in toilets at Abbey End at around 10.30am.

Two men found the man collapsed on the floor of the toilets with a cut to the head at 10.40am. They contacted his wife, who was waiting for him nearby, and alerted emergency services.

The victim told police he was attacked by a man who was already in the toilets as he went in at about 10.30am, and was pushed against the wall from behind, causing him to strike his head and collapse to the floor.

His attacker, described as being white, aged about 40 years old, 5ft 8ins tall and of scruffy appearance, left the toilets before the man’s two rescuers came in and did not steal anything.

Police are studying CCTV footage of the area and would like to hear from anyone who was in the Abbey End on Wednesday morning between 10.15am and 10.45am and who saw anything suspicious.
