Crowds flock to St Andrews to sing for the Queen

Dozens of people in Rugby turned out to wish Her Majesty a very happy birthday this morning (Friday).

The celebrations got under way from 10.30am at St Andrew’s Church, with town rangers handing out flags to visitors while the Lawrence Sheriff school band got everyone into the party spirit.

The church gardens were decked with bunting and balloons and there was even a birthday cake that had been specially made in the Queen’s honour.

Mayor Cllr Sally Bragg, MP Mark Pawsey and Reverend Imogen Nay all gave speeches to the crowds and at 11am, everybody sang the national anthem, followed by Happy Birthday and gave three cheers for Her Majesty.

The event was organised by Cllr Ramash Srivastava and Aftab Gaffar from Rugby First, as part of One Britain One Nation’s campaign to get individuals from all faiths, races and age groups to sing the national anthem simultaneously across the country.
