Cubbington street lights to stay off despite response to survey

Cubbington will stay in black out in the early hours despite more than 100 villagers saying they would pay extra council tax to have street lights switched back on.

The village’s parish council held a survey asking residents if they would be prepared to pay an extra £4 a year on their council tax to have every other light in the village switched back on between midnight to 5.30am from Monday to Thursday and 1am to 6.30am on Friday and Saturday.

But at a meeting last week the council decided that too few villagers had responded to the survey to suggest the majority were in support of the proposal.

The possibility of a broader poll will be discussed at the council’s next meeting on November 12.

A review of Warwickshire County Council’s street lighting policy will take place this month.
