Dementia care award for Anya Court

A Rugby care home has been named Best Dementia Garden at the prestigious Dementia Care Awards.

Anya Court Care Home was awarded the title at a ceremony presented by astrologer Russel Garnt in Brighton last Thursday.

The Dementia Care Awards, first established in 2009, by care magazine, Caring Times seeks to acknowledge and celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector assisting those living with dementia.

Anya Court’s general manager, Debbie Allen said: “We can’t express how happy we are to have been awarded this title.

“Our home has been open for just over two years now, and we have worked really hard to create an outdoor space that can be enjoyed by all of our residents and suit their everyday needs. This award is a testament to all of our hard work.”

A panel of judges interviewed Anya Court last month along with four other entrants before coming to their decision.

Entrants were judged on the features of the garden and evidence of how the garden benefits the residents’ emotional health and well-being.

The residential, nursing and dementia care home’s garden was also awarded silver at this year’s Rugby in Bloom competition.

It has landscaped gardens, a greenhouse and modern water feature with a fish pond as its centre piece.

Other outdoor features include a boules court, a fairy tale forest area and a chicken coop.
