Diamond day for Napton childhood sweethearts

Childhood sweethearts from Napton who have known each other since their primary school days celebrated 60 years of happy marriage yesterday (Thursday).

And Pauline and Wilfred Price will be joined by more than 50 friends and family at a celebratory meal at Warwick University tomorrow.

The couple’s romance first blossomed during their days at Barker Butts School in Counden, Coventry - and they were married at St George’s church in Barker Butts Lane on April 4 1953.

While Mrs Price trained and worked as a seamstress in her earlier days, after she had her four children, she worked as a school meals lunchtime supervisor at Willenhall Wood Junior School.

Mr Price, who left school at the age of 14, worked as an apprentice for seven years with Sir Alfred Herbert Ltd and then as an employee at GEC Brown’s Lane and Rolls Royce Ltd until 1982. He then bought Napton village stores and ran it with his wife and daughter-in law Margaret for the next 13 years.

As well as four children Keith, Hazel, Gary and Richard, the couple have six grand-children and four great-grandchildren.

They are looking forward to a celebration meal at Sarman House at Warwick University tomorrow, where their son Gary works as an electrical design engineer.
