Dog walker trampled by herd of cows

A man has been hospitalised with broken ribs and chest injuries after being trampled by a herd of cows while walking his dog in Balsall Common.

West Midlands Ambulance Service crews rushed to the disused Kenilworth railway line at 8.10am on Wednesday after reports of an attack.

The dog walker in his 50s was found to have suffered a chest injury and rib fractures in the ordeal.

He was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment after emergency care was given at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The man who is in his fifties, had a chest injury, numerous rib fractures and bruising to his abdomen.

“A pelvic binder was applied, he was given pain relief and was immobilised on a scoop stretcher before being flown to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”

The dog is not thought to have been hurt in the incident.

As well as paramedics, an ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulances from Cosford in Shropshire and Strensham in Worcestershire attended the scene on Wednesday morning.
