Driver in lucky escape after Leamington Road collision

A man in his 60s was treated for facial injuries after the collision in which his car span in the road, demolishing part of the bridge wall over the River Avon.

An ambulance crew was called to the A452 Leamington Road at around 2.30pm on March 16 following the incident.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a car and a van that had been in a serious collision.

“During the crash the car had spun round and demolished the wall of the bridge over the River Avon.

“Considering the damage to the wall the driver of the car is fortunate not to have gone through it into the river below down a drop of around 25 feet.”

The car driver was taken to Warwick Hospital for further treatment.

The lorry driver, believed to be in his 20s, sustained a hand injury but did not require further treatment.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours following the collision.
