Driver to stand trial over the death of his brother

Valer Kvec was also seriously injured in the tragic three-vehicle smash in Europa Way at Greys Mallory.

And five months after the crash in December last year, he appeared in the dock at Warwick Crown Court with the aid of crutches and wearing a neck brace.

Kvec, 31, of Farnhurst Road, Bromford, Birmingham, pleaded not guilty to causing the death of his brother Michael Kvec by driving a Honda Accord dangerously on Europa Way.

With the aid of a Romanian interpreter, he admitted an alternative offence of causing his brother’s death on December 6 by driving the car without a licence. But prosecutor Neil Bannister asked for the case to be adjourned for a trial on the more serious allegation.

Michael Kvec had been a front-seat passenger in the Honda Accord when it was involved in a three-vehicle collision after Valer Kvec tried to overtake an articulated DAF lorry travelling along Europa Way at shortly after 8pm. There was a Ford Mondeo travelling in the opposite direction towards Leamington at the time, and Michael died in the collision which followed.

As well as Kvec himself, two women in the back of the car suffered serious injuries, including broken legs, and one of them also sustained a serious head injury. But the Mondeo driver and the driver of the HGV both escaped serious injury. Judge David Tomlinson adjourned the case for trial, and Kvec was remanded in custody.
