Elderly cyclist thrown from his bike on Warwickshire road

A cyclist in his 70s was seriously injured after being thrown from his bicycle when he was hit by a lorry near Southam this morning (Thursday).

The man was lying in the road when ambulance crews arrived at the scene outside the Wharf Inn pub in Wharf Road, Fenny Compton, at about 10.30am. He was conscious and breathing.

Paramedics discovered that he had broken his right foot and was seriously injured in his left leg. They administered him with pain releif and then he was taken by air ambulance to the University Hospital in Coventry.

An ambulance spokesman said: “Luckily, the man was wearing a cycle helmet which reduced the chances of more serious or even fatal injuries.”
