Chris and Stephen from the council's street cleaning team collected a tonne of rubbish from a Rugby park in less than two hours.

The rubbish, which had been collected from town centre open spaces in just a two-hour period earlier, was dumped off the back of a truck next to the bandstand.

Chris Worman, parks and grounds manager for Rugby Borough Council, said: "Chris and Steve from our street cleaning team collected all of this rubbish in just a few hours.

"People may think that it's only one bottle or can, but this shows that when taken together it is an enormous amount of waste.

"Every day we are collecting around ten tonnes of rubbish more than we would collect normally.

"Not only are we seeing a big increase in littering, but we are also having to collect human waste.

"Our parks and grounds team have been working incredibly hard during this pandemic, delivering food supplies to vulnerable residents and supporting the Foodbank, and now catching up with their usual tasks.

"Our parks and open spaces, and our staff, deserve to be treated with respect."

The move comes after it was revealed that Rugby's parks workers have been collecting an extra ten tonnes of rubbish a day from parks across the town.
