Oxfam’s golden campaign

A BOX of gold coins - of the chocolate variety - was filled by Leamington climate change campaigners as part of an international lobby calling for action at UN climate talks.

Volunteers, staff and supporters at Oxfam’s Leamington shop in Warwick Street sent the package to Chris Huhne, Secretary of State for energy and climate change, just before he flew to Cancun in Mexico, where the talks were taking place until today.

The Fairtrade coins were bought by supporters who were keen on emphasising to Mr Huhne how people are being affected.

Oxfam Midlands political campaigner Anthony Davis said: “Climate change is already having a devastating impact on people in developing countries. Helping people to adapt has now become a major concern for organisations like Oxfam.”
