‘Everyone is extremely worried and concerned’: friend’s appeal for missing Warwick man to get in touch

A CLOSE friend of missing Warwick man Brian Reading has made an emotional plea for the 43-year-old to get in touch with his family or friends.

And police have renewed their appeal for information on the whereabouts of the father-of-two, who was last seen on July 21, the day of his 43rd birthday.

The Warwick man had met his friend Matthew Goode at Warwick station on Friday July 20 and spent the night and much of the next day at Mr Goode’s flat in St John’s before telling him at around 4pm he was going home to sleep.

Mr Goode expected a text message from his friend of 28 years, but it was the last time he saw him.

Speaking to the press at Warwickshire Police’s Leek Wootton headquarters today (Monday), he said: “Everyone is extremely worried and concerned about you, all your family and friends. Please contact somebody.

“There must be a number you have, or if not, contact the police.

“If somebody else has seen him, please contact the police.”

He was seen in Cemetery Lane, off Birmingham Road in Warwick between 5pm and 7pm.

His grandmother was buried at the cemetery, and her death last year is believed to have been one reason Mr Reading had been unhappy.

Mr Goode said his friend, who had been brought up by his grandparents and spent most of his life in Warwick, did not often go far from the town.

Despite his illness, Mr Goode said he had known his friend go for two to three months without taking his medication, and believes he may still be alive.

Det Sgt Cindy Stephenson, who is part of the 15 strong investigation team at Leamington, said: “We don’t know why he has gone missing. We are very concerned because of the circumstances and the amount of time that has elapsed.

“I would appeal to anyone with any tiny bit of information about him to come forward and tell us even if you think we already know. It’s better for us to have it twice.”

Mr Reading is 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build, and had a shaved head when he went missing.

He has distinctive tattoos around his neck, one of which is a scratch mark as if caused by a tiger’s claws.

His normal clothing consists of blue jeans and a black jacket. When he was last seen he was wearing black lace up shoes that came up to his ankles and a black long sleeved top with a white inset at the V area.

Anyone who sees Brian Reading should dial 999 immediately, and anyone with information about him or his disappearance should call Warwickshire Police on 101 or 415000.
