A FAMILY are appealing for help to track down a trophy which they donated to a Leamington hospital in heartfelt tribute to a much-loved wife, sister and daughter.

The Maxine Jayne Trophy (pictured left) was presented annually in recognition of the excellent work of nurses and midwives at the former Warneford Hospital in Radford Road.

It was donated by the family of Maxine Jayne White, who died aged 26 as a result of complications seven months into her pregnancy in 1986.

Having moved away from the area for 15 years, her father Max Bacon is now trying to find out what has become of the award since Warneford was closed and demolished.

The 77-year-old, who now lives in Heathcote Park, said: “It’s only in recent months I suddenly started thinking of it and I’d like to know where it is so we can have it back in the family.

“Someone might read this and say ‘my nan has got that in her garage’, I’ve spoken to Warwick Hospital but nobody seems to know where it is.

“It means so much to the family. It’s all we have left of Maxine now and if it is not being used as it was meant to be then we would like it back.”

Mrs White, one of Mr Bacon and his wife Joyce’s three children, died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism at Warneford’s Helena Ward.

Six months later Mr Bacon wrote a letter to a Miss J M McCrory, who was the hospital’s acting director of midwifery services.

He said: “Maxine was a lovely, lively girl and everyone who knew her loved her.

“She and Martin, her husband, were so excited about becoming parents for the first time, as we were of becoming grandparents.

“All of her family have suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of Maxine but the happiness she brought us during her lifetime will help us during our years of sorrow.

“I sincerely hope the winners of the Maxine Jayne Trophy receive it with pride knowing that it is dedicated to the memory of a much-loved wife, daughter and sister.”
