Farewell to retiring Myton head teacher, Paul MacIntyre

Myton School's interim head teacher Andy Perry and Paul MacIntyre who has retired as the school's head teacher.

Myton School has said farewell to head teacher Paul MacIntyre who retired from teaching after 34 years on Friday.

Mr MacIntyre has been a classroom teacher, head of department, senior teacher, local authority advisor, vice principal and head teacher.

He has worked in six different schools and for five local authorities.

He has served on the National Executive of the Association of School and College Leaders, and was until recently the chairman of the International and Research Committee.

During his career, he has had the opportunity to visit and work in schools across the globe including Japan, the USA, Australia and South Africa, most recently speaking at a conference on school design in San Diego.

Mr MacIntrye said: “I decided that I would like to retire at 60 and now the time has come.

“My time at Myton has been a significant highlight for me as it is a great school with enduring values, developing happy, well-educated and socially aware young people.

“I was recently asked by a much-valued colleague if I would do it all over again, that is teach, lead and support other schools.

“Teaching, I believe, is the best job in the world - I would do it all again tomorrow.”

Andy Perry, Myton’s deputy head teacher since 2011, has now taken on the role of interim head teacher until the school’s board of governors looks to recruit a permanent head teacher in the autumn term.
