Fears for the future of youth justice in Warwickshire

Warwickshire’s youth justice service is “in jeopardy” in the face of a national restructuring, say county councillors.

The National Probation Service is to manage 30 per cent of the current work, while the remainder will be managed by contractors.

Cllr Richard Chattaway of the council’s communities overview and scrutiny group, said: “At this moment, the rate of reoffending and first-time entrants to the criminal justice system is very low in Warwickshire, compared to regional and national benchmarks. his has not been achieved by accident.

“Warwickshire’s youth justice service has worked hard with partners to make sure there is an adequate level of supervision of offenders. We are concerned that changes will place this in jeopardy.”
