Fewer are out of work in south Warwickshire compared to last year

In Warwick district, the data - released last week - show that 1.4 per cent of people were claiming Jobseekers Allowance in January 2014, half a per cent fewer than in January 2013.

In Stratford district, the figure was 0.9 per cent, down 0.4 per cent compared to last year.

In Warwickshire as a whole, 1.8 per cent of people were claimants - down 0.5 per cent, while nationally, three per cent of people were claimants - a drop of 0.8 per cent.

In Warwick district, 79 per cent of people are registered as employed and five per cent unemployed, while in Stratford district, the figures are 83 per cent employed and 3.5 per cent unemployed.

Seventy-seven per cent of people in Warwickshire are in employment, while 5.2 per cent are unemployed.

In Warwick district, 16.5 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds are classed as economically active, while the figure in Stratford district is 20.3 per cent and in Warwickshire, 18.2 per cent.

Data were also compiled by parliamentary constituency. In the Warwick and Leamington constituency, 83 per cent of people are in employment, while 6.1 per cent are unemployed. Just over 15 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds are working and overall, two per cent of people are claiming Jobseekers Allowance.

In the Kenilworth and Southam constituency, 78 per cent are in employment, while 5.5 per cent are unemployed. Almost 22 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds are working and only one per cent of people in the constituency are claiming Jobseekers Allowance.

From October 2012 to December 2013, the unemployment rate for the West Midlands region was recorded at 8.3 per cent, compared to a UK figure of 7.2 per cent.

The proportion of people claiming Jobseekers Allowance in January 2014 was 4.6 per cent in the West Midlands.
