Final donation boost needed for Kevin’s fundraising Vietnam cycle

LEAMINGTON bar owner Kevin Murphy has left it late to prepare for a fundraising cycle around north Vietnam.

Mr Murphy, who owns Murphy’s Bar in Regent Street, will set off to Hanoi on Thursday October 25 and spend ten days cycling through beautiful but challenging countryside.

He is taking part in the cycle to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Mr Murphy, who has previously cycled from London to Paris to support The Big Issue and from Land’s End to John O’Groats for The Myton Hospices, said: “It’s something I need to be reasonably fit for and I’ve left it a bit late but I know I’ll do it.

“I’ll need 15 days of fairly intense cycling training to get to the standard I would like.

“You do these tings because you enjoy them but it is really nice that other people are benefitting from it as well.”

Mr Murphy has a fundraising pledge of £3,300 which will also cover his travel expenses.

He chose to support the charity because Nina Wilkins, the daughter of pub regular Sarah, has the genetic disorder.

Nina will be collecting donations while Mr Murphy displays his pedal power on a stationary bicycle outside the bar on Saturday October 20 from 9am to noon.

And from 1pm Mr Murphy and his friends will form a chain gang, visiting pubs including The Royal Exchange, The Hope and Anchor, The Queen Victoria, The Builders Arms, The Cross Keys and Murphys to collect donations.

Anyone wishing to take part can make a £10 donation to the charity.

Mr Murphy will also be collecting outside House of Fraser in the Parade on Sunday October 21 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
