Find out more about Army Reservists with MP at open day in Rugby

The Open Day, which aims to promote recruitment for the Reserve Forces in Rugby and runs from 10am to 3pm on February 13, will give local residents a chance to see what life is like as an army reservist.

Edward Street is home to newly formed D Company, 4th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment which forms part of today’s growing Army Reserve.

The reservists are keen to give Mr Pawsey a taste of the challenges they have experienced, and the comradeship they have built, over the past six months.

The Open Day is also an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in a unique challenge, both with the Parachute Regiment Reserve and the wider Armed Services, to learn more about the role.

Mr Pawsey said: “Rugby can be very proud to be home to a Reserve company of the Parachute Regiment. I am really looking forward to the Open Day and learning more about the role of the reservists, and how they balance the training and exercise required to be a member of the Parachute regiment with everyday life.

“During the last Parliament, I had the opportunity to join members of the Armed Forces as part of the Parliamentary Armed Forces Scheme. It was a great privilege to take part in the scheme and to see first-hand the incredible dedication, perseverance and courage of these remarkable men and women.”

D Company’s Major Sean Phillips said: “Being a Reservist means tackling new challenges, learning new skills, making new friends, and exploring new roles on a spare time basis, and those roles can involve anything from catering to communications and from engineering to getting airborne. Most important of all, it means a chance to really test yourself and make a real contribution to our National Security. And of course, we get paid for doing it.”
