Fireworks events organisers meet safety standard

FIREWORKS display organisers have been awarded with certificates to show their events have received official health and safety inspections.

Dave Drabwell, of Old Leamingtonians RFC, Pete Graham of the Fleur De lys in Lowsonford, Andy Fuller and Dave Colling of Warwick Round Table, John Lyons of Leamington Rugby Club, Tony Anderson and Martin Lambeth of Bishops Tachbrook Social Club and Mike Clarke of Kenilworth Round Table received the certificates as part of Warwick District Council’s voluntary firework display registration scheme launched last month.

The organisers visited the council’s main offices at Riverside House on Monday, where they were presented with the certificates by Richard Hall, the authority’s head of environmental services.

Each organisation was visited by a council health and safety inspector and a representative from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The scheme was set up to keep to help keep spectators safe while they enjoy organised bonfire and firework events.

Cllr Michael Coker, the councillor responsible for policy on the environment and community protection, said: “It‘s fantastic to see organisations taking such a keen interest in registering with the Council’s registration scheme. This will only serve to ensure these events are run safely, as well as being fun for the residents of Warwick district.”
