Firm really does ‘act on energy’ to help heat homes

A WELLESBOURNE energy firm is making efforts to help people pay the bills they need to heat their homes adequately.

Act On Energy is working with the Warwick-based Co-Operative Energy on a scheme where customers can earn a share of profits and receive a £25 ‘cashback’ voucher when they join.

In return Act on Energy will earn commission which will be invested to help continue its work advising people on how to reduce their energy consumption.

Chief executive David Jullien said: “Co-operative Energy trades on the ethical platform of offering a simple single tariff rather than masses of different ones to confuse people, a fair price and being a co-operative, which means the customers share the profits, rather than shareholders. They may not always be the cheapest supplier but they are usually in the top three or four.”

The £25 refund will be increased to £50 for those who join before March 31.

Meanwhile, Act On Energy employee Rachel Jones has been selected as the winner of this year’s Heat Hero awards, organised by fuel poverty charity NEA and ScottishPower.

Ms Jones has developed and planned fuel poverty programmes for a range of south Warwickshire organisations and made visits to vulnerable people to give them advice on energy.

She was invited to Westminister, where Kenilworth and Southam MP Jeremy Wright met her, to receive her award.

Mr Wright said: “Community engagement is vital to tackling fuel poverty and I am delighted that the work of Rachel has received national recognition.”
