Five generations at Leamington lady’s 100th birthday party

A Leamington woman who was born in the year of the outbreak of the First World War was thrown a suprise 100th birthday party by more than 100 family members and friends.

Harnam Kaur was born in the Punjab in northern India in 1914, but has lived in Leamington since 1983. Her immediate family alone - including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren - number 101 people.

Representatives from all five generations were among the 120 people who attended her surprise party, which was held at Radford Semele community hall last week.

Grandson Chand Singh Aujla said: “Our grandmother has spent her life caring for those around her and we wanted to do something special to mark this momentous day. We feel very privileged to have her in our lives.”
