Forget Me Not Walk aims to raise money for cancer cause

EXPERIENCING the turmoil of their infant granddaughter’s battle with leukaemia has given a Hunningham couple extra cause to take part in a fundraising walk.

Len and June Knightley’s four-year-old granddaughter Katie was diagnosed with the type of cancer after her parents had taken her to live in Australia in 2008.

Determined to stop other youngsters and their families having to suffer and to raise awareness of the disease, Mr and Mrs Knightley are taking part in the Forget Me Not Walk on Sunday to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Mr Knighley said: “Our motivation is Katie and to do something, whatever we can, to stop this awful disease and what it does to families.

“Any family who has had an experience of leukaemia knows it really does touch everybody.

“But when we visited Katie in Australia the people who were caring for her were so kind and caring.

“We wanted to pay something back after all we went through and for the fact that, touch wood, Katie is getting better.”

The circular walk starts at Burnthurst Farm in Princethorpe at 11am and the route takes participants through Ryton Pools Country Park.

Those taking part can choose to walk either three or five miles.

Mr and Mrs Knightley will be walking with their son Karl, his wife Lisa and their two-year-old daughter Lola.

Mr Knightley said: “We did it last year and this year we are wearing T-Shirts with pictures of Katie on them.”
