Fosse Way junction crash leads to more calls for better safety measures

More calls have been made for better road safety measures at a notorious rural road junction near Leamington after another serious car crash last week.

The incident took place at the cross roads of Harbury Lane and the Fosse Way at about 7.50am on Friday.

A woman suffered a suspected fractured sternum in the collision that led to the car she was driving ending up on its side.

Three ambulances, a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle attended.

The woman was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was taken to Warwick Hospital.

A man who was driving the other car involved had minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital for further assessment.

The Courier reported last week that safety improvements at the junction were unlikely to go ahead as Warwickshire County Council did not deem it a priority site.

More than 1,500 people have signed a petition for action to be taken.

But Cllr Bally Singh, Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Southam and Kenilworth, said his request for “quick cost effective measures” was turned down this week.

Cllr Singh said: ”The refusal of the council to consider further road safety measures at the junction, especially in light of the recent accidents, is disappointing. It shows no flexibility and accountability to residents. A truly sad moment for local democracy.”
