Four arrested after attack on shopkeeper

THIEVES assaulted an Old Town shopkeeper after he caught them stealing alcohol from his shop late yesterday (Tuesday May 22).

The robbers attacked the shopkeeper at Johnny’s Supermarket in Shrubland Street at 10.50pm, after going in to steal alcohol.

Police believe a woman intervened when the incident spilled out into the street. The men left with a small quantity of wine and beer.

Police later arrested four Warwick men after stopping a vehicle near junction 14 of the M40.

The men, aged 17, 17, 21 and 23 years, spent the night in police custody awaiting questioning today (Wednesday May 23).

The shopkeeper was taken to Warwick Hospital suffering from shock as well as cuts and cruises. He has been discharged.
