March 18, 1916

A meeting, convened by the Chairman of the Rugby Urban District Council, has recently been held to agree upon joint action in the event of a hostile air raid. It was the opinion that the two essentials to be aimed at to secure protection from damage were darkness and silence. Arrangements should be made with the Superintendent of Police when the presence of Zeppelins is notified, to warn by telephone the fire brigade, Special Constables, VTC, Boy Scouts, OTC and St John Ambulance.

March 18, 1966

The Labour party were not going to dodge the important issues which lay head of this country, Mr James Callaghan, Chancellor of the Exchequer told an audience of more than 500 when he opened his whistle-stop tour of the Midlands at the Rokeby Council School on Wednesday. Mr Callaghan was speaking in support of Mr William Price. His speech was interrupted while loud speakers were switched on for a crowd of about 100 who were unable to gain admittance to the hall.

March 14, 1991

Girls and boys will be taught together in all years when Rugby School becomes fully co-educational in 1993 at a cost of about £4.5 million. Classroom doors will be open to all females from the age of 13 to 18 years, following a major refurbishment scheme which will take two years to complete. The decision to admit girls into all years other than sixth form came after four years of planning and detailed debate.
