Fryers of Leamington is among the best in UK

USING ethically-sourced fish and making sure standards are always kept high are among the reasons why a Leamington chip shop has received a national award.

Fryers of Leamington, in Clarendon Avenue, was opened just 18 months ago by owner Anthony Young from Kenilworth and manager Robert Bills from Coventry.

They were recently visited by a ‘mystery customer’ and the shop was subsequently named a Best Newcomer in the National Fish and Chip Awards organised by Seafish, a body which promotes responsible fishing.

Fryers is the first chippy Mr Young has owned and he said the shop’s reputation for serving high quality food is spreading to other towns.

The cod it serves is from a regulated fishery in Iceland and prepared at the shop while its potatoes come from Warwickshire farms.

Mr Young said: “I couldn’t look somebody in the eye, charge them £5 and then serve them rubbish.

“You’ve got to look after your customers, I don’t like saying ‘we go the extra mile’ but we like to do our job properly.

“Having consideration for what you do goes a long way.”
