To coincide with the month-long national event, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) will be offering people advice on how to kick the booze.

The campaign encourages people to think about their alcohol intake and to go booze-free for 31 days.

“This is an opportunity to cut down on the calories, maintain a clear head, save money and make a positive difference.

Alcohol liaison nurse Julius Mukarati said: “January is a time to reflect and this campaign encourages people to think about their alcohol consumption.

“Treating chronic and acute effects of drinking alone costs the NHS an estimated £3.5 billion a year. And 83 per cent of people who regularly drink above the guidelines don’t think their drinking is putting their long-term health at risk, so education is important in minimising health risks.”

Julius will also be hosting a Twitter chat from 1-2pm on Thursday, January 21. Use #UHCWDryJan.
