Austin Lawler, who grew up in the town, has been appointed as the Spencer Yard-based company’s new touring production manager, which will see him oversee the production of all Motionhouse performances - including a forthcoming tour of the company’s Scattered show in the Netherlands and new projects for 2015.

Having worked in live music, video, film and projection, Austin has produced shows around the world - from the Columbian jungle and downtown Deli, to the middle of Tower Bridge and Wembley Stadium in London.

He was the touring production manager for projects including the Rugby League World Cup 2013 dance programme and for dance percussion group STOMP, during which he produced 250 shows for performances across the world.

Motionhouse also takes its dance shows across the world, having recently been on a tour in south east Asia. Its founder Kevin Finnan MBE choreographed the show that marked the opening of the London 2012 Paralympics.

Speaking of his appointment, Austin said: “I have been following Motionhouse for many years and I have always been amazed by the dynamism and physicality of the performances. It’s a pleasure to be working with such an innovative and imaginative world-class company, and I’m excited to be able to make my mark.”

Motionhouse’s executive director Louise Richards said: “Austin has worked on some fantastic productions around the world and we’re delighted to be welcoming him to the team this summer. At Motionhouse, one of our trademarks is the seamless integration of a variety of art disciplines to create a truly four-dimensional experience for our audiences, and Austin has the skills and creativity to help us to deliver that.”
