Godiva puts on a show to recognisebest businesses in Warwickshire and Coventry

LEISURE industry businesses in Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth have had their names put up in lights at an annual awards event for Warwickshire and Coventry.

There were a number of success stories at the Godiva Awards at the Ricoh Arena last Thursday.

Having turned its fortunes around since Irish management firm Mack Golf took over in April, Newbold Comyn Golf Course celebrated its place in the final three of the Health and Fitness category.

As part of the takeover, Mack Golf has appointed club professional Andy Hicks as the course’s general manager and invested in staff, machinery and coaching programmes.

Ian Shepherd, the club’s secretary, said: “Since Andrew and Mack Golf took over we have noticed a huge difference in not only the golf course condition but the way the course is run and managed.

“We have had a huge increase in junior members and in lady members in six months.”

The Assembly in Leamington celebrated winning the Best Live Performance Venue award for the second year running.

Becky Pomeroy, the venue’s manager, paid tribute to staff for their hard work and dedication and thanked all those who had voted.

Joint head of marketing Rory Mason added: “The best thing about this award is it’s voted for by our customers and not a judging panel, so it means more to us.”

The Rose and Crown in Warwick was named Best Pub while The Almanack in Kenilworth took home the Best Customer Service award for the second year running.

Both establishments are owned by the Peach pub company and managed by Jeremy Kynaston.

He said: “Winning one Godiva is a fantastic achievement as there’s stiff competition and the standard is extremely high.

“Carrying off two is simply awesome and something anyone would be over the moon about, which is just what we are.”

Now in its seventh year, the Godiva Awards were designed to celebrate the best businesses in the area.
