Guide Dogs new centre hosts first open event

“A HUGE thank you” has been offered to all who visited the Bishops Tachbrook-based Guide Dogs for the Blind’s National Breeding Centre’s first open day last Saturday.

The centre in Banbury Road, which opened last year, organised blindfold challenges - in which more than 140 people took part - to give visitors a taste of what it is like to live without sight, among other activities, and there was a range of stalls at the site, around which people could take tours.

Centre manager David Hurst said: “It was a fantastic day for the Guide Dogs National Breeding Centre.

“The shop almost sold out of stock, we signed up new sponsors and volunteers and the puppy viewing areas became so busy at times it was hard to move.

“The amount raised for Guide Dogs could top £3,500, which is a magnificent effort. A huge thank you to everyone who came to visit us.”

The theme for Guide Dogs Week 2012, which ended on Sunday, was ‘Walk My Way’, where the charity asked people to step into the world of someone with sight loss.

The breeding centre is now open for tours. Call 0845 3727 432 or email [email protected]
