Hazeem leads Commons debate

Hazeem Arif was one of four youngsters from Warwickshire who joined over 300 elected members of Youth Parliament in Westminster to debate the UK Youth Parliament’s priority campaigns for 2015.

Hazeem, of North Leamington School, Agatha Hunt, of Myton School in Warwick, Glen Morgan, of Etone Sixth Form in Nuneaton, and Humayrah Hussein, of King Edward VI College in Nuneaton, all took a place on the Common’s famous green leather seats for the UK Youth Parliament Annual Sitting.

Hazeem Arif, who had written a private letter to Speaker of the House John Bercow, was chosen to lead the case for the voting age being universally lowered to 16.

On the day, the youth parliament voted that the two campaigns that would be taken forward as priority for this sitting were: improvements to Mental Health services working together with young people to shape services; and that everyone should at least expect to be paid a living wage for the work that they do.
