High winds cause roads to be blocked by falling trees

POLICE cordoned off part of Cloister Crofts in Leamington after a large part of tree was blown down in the high winds this morning (Tuesday).

Officers sent out a warning on twitter for people not to try to use the road for about an hour while they waited for Warwickshire County Council contractors to remove the obstacle, which was blocking the road near the junction with Lillington Road.

The branch of another tree was also removed from Hampton Road in Warwick while the A46 Stratford Road in Sherbourne and Henley Road in Claverdon were both closed after winds gusting up to 50mph brought down trees.

Around 16 incidents involving falling trees were reported across Warwickshire from 6am this morning.
