How a drunken wrong number phone call led to wedding ring

THEIR first meeting was as random as it was rude.

But little did they know that it would lead to an unlikely love story.

Leamington man Brian Woodward called a random number after a night out as part of a drunken game with friends.

He spoke to Elizabeth Bennett in Norfolk - and she was not amused.

Brian called her back the next day apologise, and they started to chat.

And last Saturday, the story had a happy ending when the couple got married in Ickburgh, Norfolk.

Talking on BBC radio about her experience, Elizabeth said: “Brian had been out on a night out and just dialled a random number.

“He was very rude, trying to show off in front of his friends. He could tell I was rather upset, so he rang back the
following day to apologise.”

Brian said that he “had had quite a few drinks” and could not remember what he had said to upset her. Not only did she accept his apology, but the couple kept in contact through texts and emails and then agreed to meet up.

“He went from mean and nasty to actually being quite nice,” added Elizabeth.

She told the BBC that the wedding on Saturday at St Peter’s Church, Ickburgh, “went perfectly well” and the weather was “better than we hoped for”.

One of the four bridesmaids, Hannah Hamilton, said the day had been “filled with happiness and love”.

The couple, who live in Mundford, Norfolk, plan to go on honeymoon in the new year.
