John Boucher, 81, of Henley Road, was taken to hospital four times in the last 12 months after he suffered dizzy spells and problems related to diabetes.

His dog Fossey, a 13-year-old Jack Russell/Manchester terrier cross named after the Fosse Way, would normally be looked after by a friend but in April Mr Boucher returned home to find that his four-legged friend had been taken into care.

Mr Boucher spent weeks calling various services and charities including the RSPCA, social services and even a solicitors firm to try to track down Fossey.

But it was The Cinnamon Trust, a national charity based in Devon, who eventually helped Mr Boucher find the whereabouts of his dog and reunite the pair.

Mr Boucher said: “The Cinnamon Trust was a last resort, they send someone round to walk Fossey every day.

“They were absolutely brilliant, I was ringing around and calling people everyday but they were the ones who found him at the dogs home in Redditch .

“I cried when Fossey was brought back to me because it had been such a long time, we’ve always got on brilliantly.”

The Cinnamon Trust seeks to relieve the anxieties, problems, and sometimes injustices, faced by elderly and terminally ill people and their pets.

Operations manager Marnie Cude, who helped reunite Mr Boucher and Fossey, said: “We understand how elderly people feel about their pets and we are here to support them and to make sure they stay together.”
