As the council awaits responses on mitigation, petitioners have been given full responses to calls for change by HS2 Ltd.

The council’s 65-page petition case has now been heard by the HS2 select committee - the Parliamentary body able to make major changes to current proposals along the London and Birmingham line.

The case was presented by Nathalie Lieven QC over three days. The committee of MPs is currently only dealing with north Warwickshire and so any changes for the rest of the county may not be decided until as late as December.

But Cllr Bob Stevens, the council’s cabinet member for HS2, said: “We have made a series of reasonable and pragmatic requests over the past few years on behalf of our residents and remain optimistic that the committee will see the sense behind our concerns and act accordingly.”

The select committee has the authority to recommend amendments to the HS2 hybrid bill. Construction is scheduled to start in 2017.
