Inspectors say school is ‘outstanding place to learn’

STAFF and pupils at independent Arnold Lodge School in Leamington have been highly praised following a two-day interim inspection equivalent to Ofsted.

Experts from the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate reported that the school in Kenilworth Road provided: “An outstanding and stimulating environment in which pupils strive to reach their full potential.”

Arnold Lodge dates back to 1864 when it was originally a boys’boarding school. Today there are no boarders but 268 day pupils who range in age from nursery children of three to 16-year-olds.

The inspectors noted that while a wide range of abilities are represented and 50 had been identified as having learning difficulties or disabilities, the ability levels in both the junior and senior schools were above the national average. The report highlighted the good quality teaching, strong leadership and outstanding pastoral care that was evidence and praised the caring and nurturing atmosphere in which youngsters were encouraged to achieve their best.

The pupils’ personal and social development was credited as “outstanding” and demonstrated by “exemplary” behaviour and excellent manners.

Headmaster David Williams said: “We are delighted with the report. The conclusions drawn by the inspectors support our conviction that Arnold Lodge is a caring and supportive community.”

“Praise for the new senior management team is particularly welcome and endorses the enormous amount of commitment in bringing positive change to an already flourishing school.”
