Jaguar Land Rover says ‘no’ to new village in south Warwickshire

The Gaydon-based Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has lodged an objection to a proposal put forward by the Commercial Estates Group to build 4,800 new homes on land close to the village.

A spokesman for the firm told the Courier: “JLR may require the land adjacent to our Gaydon production creation facility to support future growth and job creation. Any future investment by JLR at Gaydon requires the business to have confidence in its ability to expand operations in the long-term.

“While we recognise the need to develop housing in the region, this should not be achieved by removing land that is suitable to support our growth.”

Meanwhile, the campaign group FORSE (Friends Of Rural and Sustainable Environment), has gained the support of television cook Clarissa Dickson Wright, who came across the group at Hatton Country World on Sunday.

She said: ”I deplore this attempt to impose a 5,000-house development on farming land. The Midlands needs its lungs for farming, leisure and de-stressing activities. I urge people to support FORSE and save our countryside for the production of food for centuries to come.”

Stratford District Council’s planning committee is due to make a decision on the plan next month.
