Katy Colins quite her job in public relations, sold her house and car and booked a solo backpacking adventure after being left a jilted bride, beginning her journey in Thailand.

The 30-year-old said: “Everyone did think I was a little mad, especially as I’d never travelled anywhere by myself before.”

Katy kept a travel blog, which grew in readers. She said: “People who weren’t related to me started sending me emails, telling me how brave I was to quit it all and go.”

Katy went on to backpack around South America and then lived in France teaching English for two years. Whilst in France, she was offered a three-book deal with Carina UK, an imprint of Harper Collins.

She said: “Ironically an editor called me on what would have been our third wedding anniversary. It is poignant to think how far I’d come through hard work, being brave and wanting to live the biggest life I could.”

Katy’s journey inspired her to write the first novel in The Lonely Hearts Travel Club series, a light-hearted romantic comedy, Destination Thailand. These were followed up by Destination India and Destination Chile. She said: “I’ve experienced things that I would never have dreamt possible but the highlight is being able to call myself a writer.”

The books are available to buy on kindle on www.amazon.co.uk
