Kenilworth School among top 50 comprehensives in country

The school was ranked 45th in the country when compared to other comprehensive and partially selective schools in the UK, and 188th in the country when fully-selective schools were taken into account.

Hayden Abbott, the school’s headteacher, was very pleased with the school’s position and praised the achievements of its pupils.

He said: “These results are great for the students, who enjoy the experience they have here and deserve this success.

“Teamwork plays a great part in a successful school - both students and teachers work very hard.

“It’s great to see both parts of the school doing extremely well.

When asked if the school will improve its position in the league tables in the future, he said: “I think it’s always possible to think of ways to do things better.

“We personalise the opportunities and the curriculum for the students - we don’t just look at how many students get 5 A* to C grades.

“If students are looking to achieve several A*s then we actively encourage them to do so - we never put a cap on a child.

“As our results get better more students are keen to stay on and study A levels at the sixth form, but what’s more important is for students to carry on with what’s best for them. We support them on their next step, whatever that may be.”

The tables combine schools’ A level and GCSE results, assigning points based on the percentage of grades that were from A* to B at A level, and grades that were either A* or A at GCSE.

65.1 per cent of A level grades at Kenilworth were from A* to B, and 36.4 per cent of GCSE grades were either A* or A.
